My explorer's name is Juan Ponce De Leon, but everybody know him as Ponce De Leon. The man that explored Florida.
1. Ponce was born in Santervas de Campos Valladolid, Spain in 1460, and died in July 1521, in Havana, Cuba.
2. He sailed on Christopher Columbus's second voyage to the New World.
3. In 1509 Ponce De Leon found the first settlement in Puerto Rico. As a result he was named governor of Puerto Rico, in 1509.
4. Ponce was interested in discovering the Fountain of Youth. There were legends that once said that anyone who drank from the Fountain would never died. Ponce and his sailors set to discover the fountain with the boat that Ponce himself paid for. After a few months Ponce sighted a island and 4-8 days later they were on the island that the Fountain of Youth was located,at lest Ponce de Leon thought it was.
